Julie, 7, is an artist, a musician and a big fan of recess. She’s also a big sister to Sammy, 3, and she takes that job very seriously.
While Julie is at school, Sammy attends a head-start program or spends time with mom Gabby. Both sisters receive breakfasts and lunches through the free and reduced-price meal program. In the summer, making up for those meals can be a challenge for mom Gabby and dad Leo.
Leo works as a handyman, but his one income isn’t always enough to cover food for the family of four. Gabby says she’s preparing to attend nursing school, but with the cost of childcare so high, she’ll have to wait until Sammy is in school full-time.
Thankfully, the family lives near the Abundant Harvest Client Choice Pantry, a partner agency of Montgomery County Food Bank. Gabby, who gives back to her community as a volunteer at Abundant Harvest, is grateful to also receive nutritious food for her family when she visits the pantry.
