“I’m proud of the life I’ve lived, and I’m living each day one at a time.”
That’s the positive outlook Gloria, 71, chooses to greet each day within her retirement — and she’s grateful for friends like you who help her live her days to the fullest.
Nine years ago, Gloria moved to Texas to live with her son after she retired. She receives Social Security retirement income and SNAP benefits to supplement her grocery budget.
Still, Gloria is often unable to afford healthier food options with her fixed income. She had heart valve surgery in recent years and tries to choose healthier foods that will protect her heart.
That’s why she’s grateful she can visit the Community Assistance Center in Conroe, a Montgomery County Food Bank partner agency, to pick up nutritious groceries. She’s especially grateful for the vegetables and meat she receives.
“I love making a good stew,” she says.
Gloria adds that she always feels welcome when she visits the Community Assistance Center.
“Thank God for the volunteers and those helping us in the community,” she says.
