Peter Jensen served 29 years in the Coast Guard before going to work for ExxonMobil. After retiring in 2017, he began looking for a way to give back and remembered his son having had a great experience volunteering at Montgomery County Food Bank.

His first day of service was at Woodforest Bank Stadium at a mobile food distribution. “When I arrived, it was raining, and the parking lot was quite full. Many of the people had arrived before 5 a.m. for a 10 a.m. food distribution.”

“Living in The Woodlands made me unaware of the extent of need in our community,” Peter says. “It was personally overwhelming. I literally wept on my way home.”  

Shortly after, Peter began volunteering twice weekly in our Produce Rescue Center, sorting produce for distribution to families and seniors. 

Peter says volunteering at Montgomery County Food Bank is a wonderful experience, and he encourages everyone to join him, “I can assure the volunteer that they will be welcomed and will enjoy themselves.”
