“I love vegetables!” little Eileen says as she grabs a container of mixed greens.
Eileen, 4, and her younger brother, Mateo, 1, are full of energy. You’d never guess from their bright smiles and spirited personalities that their family has been struggling with hunger.
Their dad is a handyman, but lately, work has been really slow. And because the cost of childcare is so high, Brenda, the kids’ mom, must stay home with the little ones. She hopes to find work once Eileen and Mateo are old enough to go to school.
We met Brenda and her children at Saint Vincent de Paul, a Montgomery County Food Bank partner near their home. It was their first time ever visiting a food pantry.
“I think it’s really helpful,” Brenda says of the groceries she would soon take home. “I plan to only use this until my husband starts working again.”
She and the kids picked up fresh fruits and vegetables and other grocery staples at the pantry. By saving on their bill at the supermarket, Brenda and her husband will be able to afford other expenses this holiday season. They’re so grateful you choose to give.
“Thank you,” Brenda says with a warm smile.
You make a difference in the lives of your hungry neighbors during the holidays and throughout the year. Thank you sincerely for your partnership!
