Healthy Food is on the Table!

Erika and Kathia
Little Kathia, 2, loves helping her mother, Erika, when she volunteers at the food pantry at Mission Wood Apartments.

With inflation at an all-time high, many people can no longer afford a lot of basic necessities.

These are especially difficult days for Erika’s family. Her husband works in construction and during the pandemic, he struggled to find work. Work has picked up for him lately but they are still trying to recover.

So, when Erika needs help to put healthy food on the table for their three children, aged 2 to 16, she can count on the food pantry at Mission Woods Apartments which is hosted by MCFB’s partner agency, The Woodlands Family YMCA.

“We are very appreciative with what we receive. Very grateful,” Erika says.

Not only does Erika receive food to help her family through lean times, but she also volunteers every Thursday at the food pantry to help make sure anyone who needs food has access to healthy groceries. She’s someone who frequently gives back to her community, even cleaning up common areas nearly every day in the complex where her family lives.

It’s a huge relief to Erika and her neighbors to receive food during this challenging time. “People helping us is so thoughtful,” she says.

By partnering with Montgomery County Food Bank, you’re sharing food and hope with families like Erika’s who are facing hunger this holiday season.
