Ruben is a devoted father of four children between the ages of 9 and 16. As they continue to grow and develop, Ruben says, “It’s very important to ensure they eat.”
That’s why he’s so grateful for people like you!
Ruben, once a maintenance worker for a local school district, has been without a job for a year and doesn’t receive unemployment benefits. As a single parent, his was the only income supporting his family.
“This has been humbling,” Ruben says. “The hardest time of my life.”
Ruben and his kids are living with a friend right now, and Ruben often has a hard time affording groceries. In the summer when schools are closed, it’s hard to replace the meals his kids usually eat for free in the school cafeteria. Soon, he will have to find a way to make up for 10 meals per child each week that they usually receive at school.
Without you, that just wouldn’t be possible.
He’s thankful for the food he receives from Montgomery County Food Bank through First Christian Church of Conroe’s food pantry distribution, which he will use to provide healthy and nourishing meals to his children while they are out of school.
Despite his hardships, Ruben doesn’t complain about his situation – he tries to remain thankful for what he has and is hopeful he can get back to work very soon.
“Thank you, everyone that helps, so we can have something to eat,” he says earnestly.
