Boys Baseball Team Raises 25,875 Meals

11u baseball team the Scrapyard Dawgs

Montgomery County, TX, August XX, 2021 – The COVID-19 pandemic led to thousands of our neighbors facing hunger – many for the first time. Players of the Conroe-based 11u baseball team, the Scrapyard Dawgs, saw the long lines of cars waiting to receive food from local food banks, and wanted to do something to help. And so, Hits for Hunger was created.

Throughout the boys’ season, they received monetary pledges for their successful hits, and in total, the players were able to complete over 200 hits and raise $5,175 for Montgomery County Food Bank (MCFB). At MCFB, every dollar donated provides five meals. This means, the boys’ generous donation will provide 25,875 meals to those in need across Montgomery County.

To honor the Scrapyard Dawgs’ and their generosity, MCFB welcomed the boys and their family members to the food bank for a check presentation and tour of the warehouse. MCFB’s President and CEO, Kristine Marlow, shared her appreciation for the boys’ servant hearts and their parents’ compassion.

“These young men saw the need and sprung into action,” said Kristine Marlow, President and CEO of MCFB. “They are truly an inspiration to their peers and our entire community. We are blessed to have their support and can’t wait to cheer them on next season.”

“I am incredibly proud of the team’s efforts this year,” said Ryan Hayes, Head Coach of the Scrapyard Dawgs. “The boys made it their mission to make an impact in the fight against hunger and with 217 hits they did just that. I couldn’t be prouder.”
