Mother and daughter volunteer team, Dora and Teo, love their community at the Mission Woods Apartment Complex in Spring. Each week they serve up to 150 families who come to the onsite food pantry hosted by the YMCA and supplied by Montgomery County Food Bank.
“We love to pay it forward by volunteering,” Teo says. “It feels good to give back when we can.” The duo has helped at the pantry for over a year now.
The women live together in a multi-generational household including their husbands and Dora’s two children, Ashley, 8, and Alexander, 12. Like their neighbors, Teo and Dora’s family hasn’t been immune to the increase in costs lately, especially food.
Dora’s husband, Ino, works as a carpet cleaner, but his income can fluctuate. Teo says her husband, who’s a carpenter by trade, hasn’t had any jobs lately. With only one income for the family right now, Dora has been nervous about covering the cost of two additional meals every day when the kids are home for summer break.
This summer, the high cost of living is a real threat to budgets everywhere. “Food prices are hurting a lot of families,” Dora says.
Dora is relieved to know she can get help from the food pantry at Mission Woods, a Montgomery County Food Bank partner agency, to provide the two extra meals every day that Ashley and Alexander would usually eat in the cafeteria.
Because of your generosity, the family can rely on Montgomery County Food Bank even when Ino’s work slows down.
“This is a huge help for us,” Dora says.
Thank you for helping to make such an impact for families like Dora and Teo’s this summer!
