The high cost of groceries and other necessities have made putting healthy food on the table a challenge for many Montgomery County families – like Norma’s.
Norma’s family was getting by, but her advancing pregnancy made it difficult to be on her feet all day as a full-time cook at a restaurant. Her unexpectedly extended maternity leave meant an already tight budget was stretched too thin.
Her eldest children, Rosa and Jonathan, receive meals at school, which is a huge help. But feeding her growing family on weekends, holidays and in the evenings was a struggle. Norma knew she needed help to feed her children and to keep herself nourished for the sake of the baby on the way.
Thankfully a friend told Norma about one of our partner pantries, Community Assistance Center (CAC).
It was Norma’s first time to visit a food pantry. She was amazed to learn that caring supporters like you make it possible for Montgomery County Food Bank to ensure a family going through a difficult time has access to nutritious food.
“I need nourishment for my baby,” Norma explained. And that’s exactly what she received, thanks to you -- fresh fruits and veggies, lean meats and healthy snacks.
“It’s a big help,” she said, knowing that she can pick up fresh food to cover her budget gap and keep herself and her children well-fed.
On behalf of families like Norma’s, thank you for your partnership that takes hunger off the table here in Montgomery County!
